Western Technical Colleges Student eBook

Being a late 90’s baby, I grew up in the digital age. By about the age of 12 many of my friends were already beginning to show off their brand-new iPhone’s at school, often bragging to me about what was going on Facebook is because they knew my mom wouldn’t let me create an account. Once I turned 14, I finally was able to convince my mom to let me join Facebook and became indulged in the social media world. Constantly checking to see what friends were doing, what was going on in people’s lives, etc. After years of using social platforms, as a young adult I began to grow tired of what they have to offer, however my curiosity for people remained. I remained intrigued by the way social media networks were evolving and what the current trends were, so I stayed up to date. I continued my education at Western Technical College as a marketing student and even took a Social Media Strategies class. In this class we were tasked with creating an eBook on all the main social platforms.

In this book, our class had hoped to educate viewers on the social platforms, and how marketers are able to take advantage of these platforms. Our goal was to increase awareness of businesses use of social media platforms and show consumers the how and why businesses do what they do on social media. To create this eBook, our class was split into groups and each group was designated a platform to research. We then were tasked with finding all sorts of information and data such as:

  • Who uses social media?
  • How should a business use social media?
  • How to use social media for marketing?
  • Analytics and insights on the platforms

My group was tasked with researching Pinterest, arguably the social platforms that I am least familiar with. After finding out what platform I was assigned, I was slightly nervous because of my lack of knowledge for the platform, and my prejudice against it. I never enjoyed Pinterest as it just wasn’t something I was interested in, but after weeks of researching it I came to the realization it is one of the most organic platforms available and is a huge component of many businesses’ social media strategies. If you own a business or are trying to build a brand, Pinterest is a great place to start to identify your target market, build relationships with your consumers, and drive conversions. Pinterest makes marketing on its platform exceptionally easy, and even easier to create an account, click here to create your business account.

To summarize; social media has been an important influencer on many people’s everyday lives. Many people are reading, seeing, and talking about social media on a daily basis, oftentimes not knowing what goes into it. I have often heard people say things like “I just got an ad for something I was talking about 3 days ago! They’re spying on me!” While this isn’t necessarily true, wouldn’t you like to find out how it happens? Click here to download our class eBook and find out why!
